And then there were EIGHT!?!?

This year has been FULL of surprises! Big ones, small ones, happy ones, sad ones, and even strange and almost unbelievable ones (possums in the toilet?). Now, here we are. It’s almost November and I have no idea where the year has gone. But when I look back, it seems like too much has happened for less than a year to have gone by. (Such is life, I guess.)

Unfortunately, I’m a super goal-oriented person. I LOVE setting both small and big goals for myself and the feeling I get when I meet or exceed those goals! So far this year, with all the unexpected happenings, I’ve failed to hit almost every goal I’ve had, especially blogging goals.

I’ve tried so hard to keep up with blogging but it’s been nearly impossible. So my new goal (as far as blogging is concerned) is to get used to using my phone to write and post and get caught up on reviews. Using my phone, in theory,  I “should” be able to stitch together some posts in short bursts of free time throughout my days.  So say a prayer, wish me luck, and sacrifice a chicken under the light of a full moon that this is one goal I’ll be able to stick to!

Actually, maybe don’t do that last one?

No… Definitely don’t do the last one.

Seriously, DON’T DO IT! If you have a chicken, I need the eggs!!!

It takes a whole dozen eggs just to make enough for everyone at breakfast now because one of those unexpected happenings that’s occurred this year was a previous foster placement coming back into care and back into our home, bringing our current family size to eight!!! (Note to self: you need to Google when it becomes cheaper to just raise chickens and dairy cows.)

Having 6 kids, my studio time has been cut short, but I’m finally get a bit set aside most days to work. I should get my audiobook page updated this weekend so please be sure to check that out and use the links found there to view & purchase from Audible! (As always, reviewers can contact me for promo codes.)

I’m also getting some quilting and crochet time in so I’ll try to post about those projects soon.

And, of course, I’ll be posting reviews!

I pre-apologize for any funky fonts, misspellings, or other craziness that occurs as I figure out this whole WordPress phone posting thing and appreciate any suggestions on how to keep my blog going and staying connected with the blogging community with small children! Leave me a comment below or shoot me a message through the Contact Me page. Thanks for visiting!

Day #1 Update – 2019 Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon

So I’m trying really hard not to compare my first day of the Tackle Your TBR Read-a-thon to last year, but I’m not succeeding! I currently have 4 kids under the age of 4 here so it’s silly to think I’ll be reading entire books every day… Yet my competitive nature still produces an inner voice that says I must constantly be improving and doing better than before. So I’m really struggling to just be happy with what I can do right now.

Because the idea that I should be anywhere near the page count I was at last year is a ridiculous lie.

The truth is, every page I get to read is a victory! So without further ado, the following is my Day 1 Update:

Books Read:

Beautiful Revolutionary by Laura Elizabeth Woollett

Pages Read: 28

The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

I hadn’t actually planned on reading The Wizard of Oz during the read-a-thon, but the kids found the copy My husband got me from The Folio Society for my birthday and they were obsessed with the pictures so I decided might as well read it to them! We got through 14 pages together.

Day 1 Totals:

Books Read: 2

Pages Read: 42

Total Books Read: 2

Total Pages Read: 42

Finished Books: 0

No, I’m not dead…

Hello everyone!

I know, I disappeared after my steroid injection post, but they didn’t kill me or anything! (I’m actually going to get the second one today. Yikes!)

I am sorry for the radio silence over the last few weeks, we’ve just had a lot going on! Some was just personal stuff, but on top of that we started getting the house ready for a sibling group we thought we were going to get from foster care, but that fell through, and now we have a completely different placement…

So a lot of transitioning going on in my home! Which means a lot of randomness and sporadic posting here.

I do hope to at least get caught up on reviews and my other planned posts over the next couple weeks and then hopefully get back to normal and fully open up to review requests again soon!

In the meantime, I just wanted to pop in quickly to say hi! I’ve missed all my blogging world peeps! Hope all is well with you!!

Note to Self: You’re Not on Vacation Anymore!

Well, I’m back (sorta)!

We had an amazing time on our vacation. But I think my brain may still be there!

I cannot seem to get back into the swing of things now that I’m back home… I don’t feel like cleaning, writing, cooking, or really doing anything that requires effort at all. Even carrying on coherent, meaningful conversations is just too much! Why can’t I just Cyndi Lauper my life away?

I’m aware that my refusal to be a productive member of society again probably means the cruise we took spoiled me just a little too much!

For now, I’m okay with it. I’m usually so stressed about everything that’s it’s nice to have a more laid back attitude… At least until I starve as I chill in my dusty home reading books and talking to people on the internet. (Can someone remind me to eat occasionally?)

Seriously, am I the only person who struggles to get back into the normal flow of life after vacation? What do you do to get motivated again?

2019 Reading Goals

So yesterday I posted my blogging goals for 2019. Today, I’m sharing my 2019 Reading Goals!

I don’t have many, so this should be a pretty short post…

1. Read 52+ books

This one should be pretty easy. I only have to average a book a week in order to hit it. I usually read at least two, so this is probably way too low.

However, I have NO idea what 2019 is going to throw at me, especially with my neck.

I start injections this week and I’m super nervous about how that’s going to go. The blurry vision I was getting seems to be getting better, but I’m scared to get too optimistic… so I’m setting a safe goal of 52.

2. Read the Harvard Classics and the Shelf of Fiction

This has been a goal of mine for a really long time!! I’ve decided to make 2019 the year to make it happen!

To be honest, it’s probably impossible that this will happen in 2019. I fully expect it to take me at least two years. So this probably should go in a 2019-2020 goal list, but I’m including it here anyway.

If you don’t know what the Harvard Classics/Shelf of Fiction are, you can find out more and read them all for free on Bartleby or Project Gutenberg.

Project Gutenberg has this short explanation on their site:

Dr. Eliot, then President of Harvard University, had stated in speeches that the elements of a liberal education could be obtained by spending 15 minutes a day reading from a collection of books that could fit on a five-foot shelf. (Originally he had said a three-foot shelf.)
The publisher P. F. Collier and Son saw an opportunity, and challenged him to make good on this statement by selecting an appropriate collection of works; the Harvard Classics was the result.

3. The Sookie Stackhouse Read Along!

I am SUPER excited for this Read-along! I’m aware this isn’t so much a “goal” as it is “something I saw and can’t pass up,” but my list was way too short and I’m dropping here and inviting you all to join!!

It’s hosted by What’s My Page Again? and starts January 6. Here’s the schedule (totally copied and pasted from her site, which you should go check out and join us!):

  1. 1/6-1/12: Dead Until Dark and Living Dead in Dallas
  2. 1/13-1/19: Club Dead and Dead to the World
  3. 1/20-1/26: Dead as a Doornail and Definitely Dead
  4. 1/27-2/2: All Together Dead and From Dead to Worse
  5. 2/3-2/9: Dead and Gone and Dead in the Family
  6. 2/10-2/16: Dead Reckoning and Deadlocked
  7. 2/24-2/28: Dead Ever After

I read most of the Sookie Stackhouse books right after the True Blood series started on HBO. Although I never finished the TV series, I fell in love with the books!!!

The first five are already in my posession (minus the one my daughter has), so I’m already set and ready to begin reading on Sunday!

Between goals #2 and #3, I should definitely be WAY over my books read goal for 2019… I should probably up that to about double!

4. Read the Books on My Shelf I’ve Never Gotten Around To

This is a goal that follows me around every year… read the books I bought but never actually read. There’s always a brighter, shinier book that sucks me in and forces me to read it first!

Let’s face it, that book I bought 5 years ago but never cracked the spine probably isn’t gonna get read in 2019 either. Maybe if it’s put here though, you guys can keep me accountable??? (It sounds good, anyway.)

Well, there you have it. Those are my 2019 reading goals. What do you think? What do you plan on reading this year? Leave me a comment below!
